A project to introduce a solar system to the indigenous, off-grid community at Pucur Village, Kluang, Johor was carried out on 23 January 2017. The project, headed by Dr. Zulkarnain Bin Ahmad Noorden and assistsed by Dr. Jasrul Jamani Bin Jamian and Cik Fatihah Binti Mohd Zaid, is one of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s community engagement projects under the IISJ-UTM initiative. The main objective of the project is to expose the community on the potential of implementing a solar system at their village. The community members has been hoping for the electricity supply to their village and the installation of a PV system will ensure that they obtain the electricity at a reasonable cost. To date, a plan to execute a solar-based eco-treatment station (Eco-Balai Rawatan Kampung Orang Asli Pucur) for the community has been proposed, and various parties have been contacted to enable the plan to be executed. More details to follow up soon.
