The Ph.D. programme in Electrical Engineering is by full research only. However, the normal period of full-time study requires a duration of 3.5 years (7 semesters), or up to a maximum period of 8 years (16 semesters). The Ph.D. candidate is supervised by a graduate faculty lecturer (or by a panel of lecturers). Co-supervisors may come from industry. Prospective graduate students should prepare themselves adequately, both in the fundamental subject matter necessary for advanced work and other branches of learning, so they may conduct quality research and successfully complete their programs.
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Ph.D. students are required to register and pass the following courses
Semester of study
|2||PKEE1200||For fast track students only: Directed reading assessment.|
|3||PKEE2100||Proposal defense. Est. on week 9-10.|
|16||PKEE8200||Students who did not submit thesis will be given termination of study status|
Note: Students are allowed to defer study for not more than 2 consecutive semesters due to medical reasons or otherwise. For deferment due to medical, the deferred semester(s) are not counted. For other reasons, the deferred semester(s) are counted. Assume that student A deferred one semester due to personal matter after completing the third semester, he/she would register for MEE3100 after returning to study.
The degree is awarded based on a comprehensive oral examination (viva-voce) of the thesis submitted by the candidate on the completion of study. As a part of thesis submission requirement, the candidate must have published an indexed journal or 2 papers in indexed conference proceedings at the time of thesis submission.
First class Bachelor Graduates (CGPA ≥ 3.67/4.00) may apply for fast-track PhD. M.Phil. students may also apply for conversion to PhD program when they have demonstrated excellent achievement in Master-level research and the project can be extended in scope for PhD-level research (terms & conditions apply).
